Will I watch it again? It's a trailer compilation, of coures!

This trailer comp is different than any other in that it's got 34 minutes of made up trailer for movies that don't exist.  Nearly all of them strive to look like 60s/70s grindhouse trailers in the way they look and feel but you soon discover that it takes a lot more than adding scratches, cutting frames and grading to achieve that.  Some are pretty good and others not so much but they're all worthy efforts.  This is the kind of thing I've been wanting to do myself for many years.  Someday I guess...  Each fake trailer has it's own movie poster (and they look fantastic!) and optional audio commentary. The disc is rounded out with an image gallery featureing all-new images with music by Dead House Music.  This 7 minute slideshow has the mock posters to the new trailers on disc one plus a whole lot more.  The retro style of the posters is fantastic.  None of these movies exist but I'll be damned if I didn't want to see every one of them.  This is really good stuff.

The third and final disc is nothing but audio; 312 MP3s of 30 and 60 second radio spots.  I haven't had a chance to go through these yet but I've heard some of them before.  It's the kind of thing you'd want to listen to on a trip.  There is a shitload of great titles on this disc that will have you in stitches with laughter.  Some of them get really creative when you don't have the visual to connect to and they're usually loaded with great taglines.

This is a great set and it's obvious the folks behind this have a true love for 70s/80s era genre trailers plus they've added so much more than any other compilation I've ever seen and I've got over 200 DVD of just trailers!  Right now you can get it on Amazon for $12.96 and free shipping (for Prime members).  It's a no brainer.  Even if you don't like the fake trailers, there are still hours and hours of fun in this set.  Simply outstanding.

Drive-In Delirium Vol. 2

The very day I found out this series existed I discovered www.umbrellaent.com.au. This Australian DVD mail order company was the only place I could find these AMAZING collections of kick ass movie trailers and at a reasonable price. The DRIVE-IN DELIRIUM series is produced by them in Australia and are region 2 so don't expect to see them on the shelves here in the USA. You'll need to find yourself a player that will play the PAL format discs. You can get PAL players that are region-free on ebay for a song. They'll play any DVD from anywhere around the world. It's worth spending $40 for a player just to view these. WOW!!! And I thought volume 1 was amazing!!!

Anyway, I bought volumes 1 and 2 at once and started watching them the day they arrived. I'm a movie trailer junkie and each volume has 4 DVDs with 3 hours of trailers on each one bringing you about 300 trailers and lasting about 12 hours. I instantly had 24 hours of trailers to savor - some I've seen and some I hadn't. This is the end-all, be-all of movie trailer compilations. I was hoping to finish a trailer project disc before adding this, volume 2, but the 3rd volume was released last week and it arrived today so I'm taking a short break from yard work and I'm starting to list volume 2. In a couple of hours I'm going shower, pour myself a damn fine cocktail, kick my dogs up and delve into volume 3. Umbrella Entertainment, I LOVE YOU!

Drive-In Delirium Vol. 1

Less than four years since I started chronicling EVERY SINGLE MOVIE I've watched since then, I never would have guessed I would have stuck with it this long. I was married once and that barely lasted longer than this blog. I only bring it up because this marks the 1,000th post! That means I've watched 1,000 movies in just under 4 years (10/1 will be the 4 year mark). I've still got about 20 films I've watched and haven't posted yet and I figured this one will be a good one to post for the occasion.

I'm a movie trailer junkie. I've got about 200 DVDs of trailer compilations. See PROJECT: TRAILER TRASH for the details. A few weeks ago I came across a forum post where someone mentioned a trailer compilation I'd never heard of. DRIVE-IN DELIRIUM is a 4-disc set with nearly 350 trailers!!! That's 12 hours of trailers!!! THE FUCK? I NEED this. I quickly found one vendor in the States that had it (www.deepdiscount.com). Not only do they have it but there's a second volume that's got ANOTHER 12 hours of trailers. HOKEY SMOKE!!! They're $35 a pop with free shipping and I didn't flinch at completing the order (I've bought tons of DVDs from them over the years and they're fantastic).

BOTH VOLUMES ARE IN THE PAL FORMAT so make sure your player can handle it. Mine can although I was disappointed that the site I purchased from failed to mention that anywhere. I give these two sets the highest possible recommendation I can give.

This is it. It's the mother lode of trailer compilations. Each of the 4 discs (same goes with vol. 2) is divided into 2, 3 or 4 categories. These are uncut trailers with an overall great quality. You're not getting pristine prints but you're not getting public domain shit, either. Most of them are widescreen (very few aren't) and THEY'RE FUCKING AWESOME!!! I'm insane for listing these and adding this to Project: Trailer Trash but it's the 1,000th post, I've seen a lot of these already and I've found a shitload of movies that I have GOT to see. So...here we go.

Project: Trailer Trash!

I've loved movie trailers ever since I can remember. Regardless of how the movie was at the theater you could almost always rely on seeing one of the trailers that looked really promising that would almost guarantee your return trip. As a kid in the 70s and a teen of the early 80s, the theater was about the only way you could see them. By the mid to late 80s I found some catalog companies (like Sinister Cinema) that sold VHS trailer compilations. I was in heaven. A whole new world opened up to me of movies I needed to see, many of which I'd never heard of. It wasn't long before I was searching for and watching all kinds of shit I never knew existed. Those trailer compilations were my gateway drug to every corner of cinema from art to trash and I've never looked back.


Over the years I've accumulated nearly 200 trailer compilations. Some are so-so while others are cinematic treasure chests into worlds you can't imagine. Most of them are geared toward a particular genre like Spaghetti Western, Sword & Sandal, Sci-Fi, Horror, etc, while other are more broad like the 42nd STREET FOREVER Grindhouse discs released by Synapse (I LOVE those). I've got some dedicated to Godzilla, Blaxpoloitation, 70s XXX, 3D, Pinky Violence, Sexploitation, Nigeriansploitation, Mexican Kiddie Films, Film Noir, Martial Arts and just about any genre you can think of. I've seen nearly all of them and most of those are highly entertaining. They're great to slap on during a party or before movie night with friends. Hell, there've been many times I threw one on after the movies were over and we'd stay up for hours drinking and having a blast. If you don't like one, the beauty of it is you just have to wait a minute or two and another one completely different will be on.


I always thought how fun it would be to watch every movie on some of these and, after some inspiration from someone who did just that (well, he announced he was doing it but rarely updated the movies he saw, leaving me with the impression that he'd given up on it), I decided I was going to do it and the first disc to get that treatment was volume 1 of 10 from Something Weird Video called, DUSK TO DAWN DRIVE-IN TRASH-O-RAMA SHOW. It took a year but I watched every film I could get my hands on. There was a lot of shit to wade through but I did find a couple of gems which keeps you motivated to keep going. I discovered the hard way that often times the trailers are far superior to the films they're married to.


So, rather than neglect listing these fine compilations on the blog, I'm going to list them here. It's my gift...it's my curse.


I recently came across a great resource for trailer compilations that have been released on commercially available DVDs. It's called, THE TRAILER COMPILATION DATABASE, and it's a valuable resource for anyone who wants to add to their collection without knowing where to get them (see, 'cause you need to know the titles in order to look).


1) 42nd Street Forever Vol. 1 - A great start to a multi-volume series released by Synapse featuring 48 Grindhouse classics covering a large variety of genres. STATUS: COMPLETED

2) Dusk to Dawn Drive-In Trash-O-Rama Show Vol. 1 - This is the first of 10 volumes of trash covering a large variety of genres. This is the first disc where I've seen everything I could get my hands on and it was a tough ride getting through the 75 films. STATUS: COMPLETED

3) Sword & Sandal Trailers Vol. 1 - This is the first of 3 volumes I transferred from the Sinister Video VHS tapes to DVD. Great Peplum fun! 23 trailers.

4) A Fistful of Trailers - EXCELLENT comp of 36 Spaghetti Western trailers released by Wild East. It was so successful that they made a sequel, For a Few Trailers More, both of which are sadly out of print. This is one of my favorite comps.

5) Sci-Fi Trailers Volumes 9 & 10 - I bought a bunch of these off a vendor from eBay many, many years ago. The quality is crap but it's the content that make them worth owning. 48 trailers.

6) 42nd Street Forever Vol. 2: The Deuce - 56 more grindhouse trailers that are all over the genre map.

7) Blaxploiteasin' - 30 Blaxploitation classic trailers that are sure to get you longing for the 70s, hookers, cocaine, loud-ass clothes, pimped-up rides, lots of sex and plenty of action!

8) Drive-In Delirium Vol. 1 - It's the fucking motherload of grindhouse movie trailers! There are 340 trailers spread out over 4 DVDs for a total of 12 hours of pure bliss. The best part about it is there's a volume 2 with a third one due by the end of 2011!!!

9) Drive-In Delirium Vol. 2 - O.M.F.G.! Now Umbrella Entertainment in Australia has given the world 24 hours of trailer fun.  This volume is much like the first - 4 DVDs, 307 trailers of a plethora of genres and it lasts more than 12 hours!

10) Stephen Romano Presents Shock Festival - This compilation is unlike any other.  It's got 34 minutes of fake trailers plus tons of grindhouse era 70s and 80s trailers which include 2 commentaries.  It's also got tons of movie trailers for TV and a third disc of 312 radio trailers.  They really went the extra mile on this one and it shows. Fantastic!

Blaxploiteasin' (2009)

Here's a fantastic fan compilation of 30 Blaxploitation trailers of the 1970s courtesy of a sadly now defunct blog, A Fistful of Previews. I've been watching a few Blaxploitation flicks lately and someone suggested this DVD. It's been a while since I downloaded it (it's free and legal HERE) but I didn't slap it in until recently. Thanks to whoever brought it up. It's loads of fun. Download it and join the fun. As soon as I figure out how to make my own trailer compilations I'm going to make my own of my favorite genres.

I love this series of trailer compillations from Synapse Films. They're a blast to bang through and they're great for background noise/video for parties. This is the second of 5 (so far) and it's a must-have for anyone who is a fan of any of these types of flicks.
