Satanis: The Devil's Mass (1970)

Director: Ray Laurent

Starring: Isaac Bonewits, Anton LaVey, Diane LaVey

More info: IMDb

Plot: Documentary about the Church of Satan, their beliefs, the neighbors' attitudes towards them and those who attend.

My rating: 5/10

Will I watch it again? Nah.

If it were made today it would be dull as hell but there's something about watching a documentary from the 60s/70s that makes things more tolerable. I'm not going to waste my time speculating on why that is on this review. SATANIS could be an interesting movie if: A) the interviews were edited down, and B) if the ritual scenes are dreadfully dull and silly (the organ music takes the cake). Tighten this baby down to about 45 minutes and you'd have something worthy of repeat viewings. Even at the current 86 minutes it's a chore to get though...although it does have a good deal of nudity...

Rent it from Netlix and watch all of the awesome trailers and shorts and the second film of the double feature, SINTHIA: THE DEVIL'S DOLL (1970).
