Get the Gringo (2012)

Director: Adrian Grunberg

Starring: Mel Gibson, Kevin Hernandez, Daniel Gimenez Cacho, Jesus Ochoa, Dolores Heredia, Peter Gerety, Roberto Sosa, Peter Stormare, Mario Zaragoza, Gerardo Tarcena, Dean Norris

More info: IMDb

Tagline: Plan your getaway

Plot: Apprehended by the Mexican authorities, Driver is sent to a hardcore prison where he enters the strange and dangerous world of 'El Pueblito'. Not an easy place for an outsider, unless it's with the help of someone who knows the ropes - a 10-year-old kid.

My rating: 8.5/10

Will I watch it again? Yes.

Before I even saw it last year I was horrified that this only played in a couple or so theaters before going to the DTV crowd and eventually making it to DVD.  Horrified.  The trailer looked amazing and it felt like this might be a return to form with what Gibson was so great at in PAYBACK (1999).  It is.  He's the same kind of badass in GRINGO.  He's a no-holds-barred, always calculating, man of action sumbitch that doesn't pull his punches.  Badass.  This movie is fucking great.  I enjoyed the hell out of it.  The story moves at a brisk pace, Gibson steals the show and there's lots of great action and violence leading up to a great finale that makes for a very satisfying experience.  Too bad Gibson made an ass out of himself in the real world enough for the studios to think this wouldn't play well in theaters.  They were wrong and I'd like to punch in the throat the person responsible for making that decision...unless of course it's Gibson and then I'd like to punch him in the throat for being such a drunken douchebag.  Seriously, that man needs to STFU and only drink at home.  Whatever he does, though, I'll still love the shit out of his movies as long as they turn out like this one.
