Would I watch it again? I guess.
#54 on my on-going quest to watch every film from the amazing documentary, NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD: THE WILD, UNTOLD STORY OF OZPLOITATION! (2008)
There are two reasons to see this movie.
1) John
2) Jarratt
He makes the picture the shockfest that it is (ya gotta love that laugh). What doesn't make the grade is lack of interesting characters outside of Jarratt's sick-fuck, Mick Taylor. We follow these three boring-ass kids (twenty-somethings) around for more ten minutes before the opening credits even roll. I couldn't care less about the kids but once Jarratt shows up a half hour or so in, IT...IS...FUCKING...ON!
He's incredibly likable and it's easy to see how these kids allow him to string them along as much as he does. It doesn't take long before he's got them bound and it's torturing time! What really surprised me was how things don't play out like you would expect them to, i.e. like a Hollywood horror film would.
Maybe we weren't meant to care about those kids but if that were the case, why spend 35 minutes dicking around with them? Despite the weak first thirty, that last hour is what horror movies should strive for.
