Deadly Jaws (1974)

Director: Harald Reinl

Starring: Horst Janson, Hans Hass Jr., Marius Weyers, Monika Lundi, Sandra Prinsloo, Gert Gunther Hoffmann

More info: IMDb

Plot: A group of divers try to reclaim an ancient sunken treasure, but sharks, pirates, and an octopus stand in their way.

My rating: 6/10

Will I watch it again? Nah.

Don't be sucked into this because of the title like I was.  OK, so I also wanted to see it for the underwater treasure adventure aspect.  It's not so bad.  You'll need to get adjust to everyone speaking clearly underwater (and with a reverb that you get when you're at a drive-in theater with the speakers hanging on the doors).  It's funny at first but you get used to it.

There's some double crossing and intrigue and a fight at the end against a common enemy.  And the finale has a few false endings in that each scene feels like it's about to wrap up.  When it's done I was satisfied.

I dug the ending as well as the rest of the picture but not enough that I'll ever need to come back to it.  Now I might be interested if a great looking widescreen print shows up.  It'd be interesting to see how much of a difference that can make.
