Plot: Biopic of Australian star Marjorie Lawrence , who took the opera world by storm and made a remarkable comeback after being crippled by polio, with the help of her devoted husband, Dr. Tim King. Starting out by singing to crippled servicemen, like herself confined to wheelchairs, she builds a new career.
My rating: 7.5/10
Will I watch it again? No.
What happened to Eleanor Parker's career? I love that broad. Why wasn't she an A-lister or if she was, why was it so brief and what happened? She's wonderful. Well, this picture got me choked up in a few places and it's from a combination of a well made film that knows what buttons to push and when combined with my having a cold. The performances are solid, there's lots of beautiful music and operatic set pieces and the last fifteen minutes is an emotional home run. It's neat seeing Stuart Whitman in a walk on role as a guy who hits on Marjorie (Parker) at the beach. And even though I love Roger Moore, he's being Roger Moore and not even trying to speak with an Australian accent, where his character is from. That's just being nitpicky on my part. It's still neat to see him in anything.
