Microwave Massacre (1983)

Director: Wayne Berwick

Starring: Jackie Vernon, Loren Schein, Al Troupe, Marla Simon, Claire Ginsberg, Lou Ann Webber, Anna Marlowe

More info: IMDb

Plot: Construction worker Donald is having a hard time getting anything good to eat since his wife has decided to only cook gourmet foods. That and her constant harping cause him to snap, and he whacks her. He accidentally starts eating her and...likes it. Soon he's experimenting with different recipes. And different meats.

My rating: 6/10

Will I watch it again? Sure, with the right crowd this could be even better.

I don't get how this rates soooooo low on IMDb. It's hilarious and not only in a so-bad-it's-good way. It's often laugh out loud funny on purpose. Donald is full of puns and, as puns go, some are funny and some aren't. One that works is when he's just killed a prostitute, has her spread out on the kitchen island ready to cut her up and he says, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whore." Brilliant. That's some funny shit. But then again, you might think it's the dumbest thing ever. Either way, there are so many of them that you're bound to break down at some point and start laughing either 'cause you think it's funny or by exhaustion.

Look, sometimes there comes along a dumb, no budget, seemingly inept flick that hits enough marks and gets across that these are just a bunch of people who wanted to have a great time making a goofy movie...and it works. It's not entirely successful but it works enough to have a good time. For the horror fans there's some gore and nudity and enough laughs (intentional or otherwise) to keep you entertained for a measly 76 minutes. Director Wayne Berwick only ever directed one other picture and that's THE NAKED MONSTER (2005). It sounds just goofy enough that I'll have to watch it. MICROWAVE MASSACRE is a really good movie to throw on with friends and party liquor.
