Child's Play 5: Seed of Chucky (2004)

Director: Don Mancini

Starring: Brad Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, Billy Boyd, Redman, Hannah Spearritt, John Waters, Keith-Lee Castle, Steve West, Tony Gardner, Jason Flemying, Nicholas Rowe

More info: IMDb

Tagline: Deliver us some evil.

Plot: The killer doll is back! Glen, the orphan doll offspring of the irrepressible devilish-doll-come-to-life Chucky and his equally twisted bride Tiffany. When production starts on a movie detailing the urban legend of his parents' lethal exploits, Glen heads for Hollywood where he brings his bloodthirsty parents back from the dead. The family dynamics are far from perfect as Chucky and Tiffany go Hollywood and get rolling on a new spree of murderous mayhem; much to gentle Glen's horror. Chucky can't believe that his child doesn't want to walk in his murdering footsteps, and star-struck Tiffany can't believe that the movie will star her favorite actress, Jennifer Tilly, who soon becomes an unwitting hostess to this new family in more ways than one...

My rating:6.5/10

Will I watch it again? Yeah.

Man, I was hoping for something better than this after the home run the series had with the last picture, BRIDE OF CHUCKY (1998).  That one was a scream.  Not to be misunderstood, this fifth entry is fun (and there's FINALLY some nudity in the series) but it's not as whimsical as the last one.  I really like the direction they're going with these films and how Jennifer Tilly is in this all the way through (as a flesh and blood actress, not just as a puppet).  She's a lot of fun and there are some great gags at her (the actress) expense that had me laughing out loud.  It also helps that John Waters has quite a bit to do.  I'd like to see him in more things.  Probably the thing I dug the least was the puppet design on Glen (Boyd).  That's one ugly ass puppet.  I'm sure that's what they were going for, but shit!

  1. I only have the Child's Play films on videotape. I prefer to call them the Chucky films. I'm still waiting for a reasonably priced DVD or Blu Ray box set to be released. The first film in the series was dull, but from the second film onwards it was just Wow! And don't get me started on Jennifer Tilly, her entrance in Chucky #4 sent the series into overdrive!
