Will I watch it again? Twice already.
I first saw the trailer for this just after seeing the one for BLACK DYNAMITE (2009). Between these two flicks, 2009 was shaping up to be one hell of a year for movies if for no other reason. I was stunned that this movie lives up to the outrageously fun trailer. It's fantastic.
The surprise cameo (PLEASE DO NOT let anyone spoil this for you if you've yet to see it) was just icing on the cake and it's my favorite part. I about pissed myself with laughter. I'm sure they'll have some super-secret cameo for the sequel which I will avoid any mention of the film online or anywhere else. I want it to be just as much of a surprise as this one was.
Woody was born to play Tallahassee. I guess Michael Cera was too expensive which is a good thing because Eisenberg was teriffic even if it was hard to shake his best Cera impersonation.
The only thing I really have a distaste for (and this is still the case after a second viewing) are the girls. Their behavior is rotton and that the guys just went a long with it like a couple of pussies is just wrong. I don't know many people that would have been suckered into their traps as many times as they were. When the guys encounter their former car the girls stole sitting on a lone highway with no one in sight, they stop and investigate? Excuse me? I can see Eisenberg's character wanting to do something dumb like they did but for Tallahasse to do it just doesn't make sense. Fuck 'em, I say. Let the evil bitches rot!
It's a great mix of comedy and horror much like how SHAWN OF THE DEAD is. The story is fun, the action is great, the kills are fucking hilarious and there's plenty of laughs. Oh, and there's poignance. There's a scene with Tallahasssee that's touching as all get out. That's not something you'd expect from a picture called ZOMBIELAND but then you also wouldn't expect it to be this good, either.
