Return of Sabata (1971)

Director: Gianfranco Paraolini

Starring: Lee Van Cleef, Reiner Schone, Giampiero Albertini, Ignazio Spalla, Annabella Incontrera

More info: IMDb

Tagline: The man with gunsight eyes is back...and he's throwing his weight around one quarter of an ounce at a time!

Plot: Master gunslinger Sabata arrives in Hobsonville, a town completely owned by McIntock, a robber baron who is taxing the inhabitants for the cost of future improvements to the town. Or that's what McIntock says he'll do with the money...

My rating: 6/10

Will I watch it again? Man, that's a tough one.

#9 on A FISTFUL OF TRAILERS (part of the TRAILER TRASH PROJECT)

I started watching this one last night and fell asleep after an hour, finishing it today. I don't remember having this problem getting through it the last time. RETURN OF SABATA has one great thing going for it and that's Lee Van Cleef, badass extraordinaire. It's got good production values and the MGM release gives you a fantastic print but the plot is just so convoluted that the hour and forty minute run time is simply too much. There's so much that can be cut. Then there's the humor. I'm not beyond Spaghetti Westerns throwing in some funny but this one's got silly slapstick moments and enough acrobatics to choke a clown car. Oh, and Marcello Giombini's unusual score has fuzz guitar and lighthearted "bum bum bum bad da bum bum, bum ba bum ba da bum" singing. It's psychedelic goofy but too long for me to probably watch again.
