#28 on Hammer Horror (1957-1976)

This is a title that I've longed to see but feared it would suck. Boy, was I wrong! It's well-paced with a few dabs of gore and suspense, it looks Gothic fantastic (something Hammer excelled at), James Bernard's score works well (although not nearly as memorable as some of his other Hammer outings) and it builds to a satisfying climax that left me happy. Nice!

If all you know about Hammer is the Dracula pictures with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, you owe it to yourself to check out their entire catalog. They made some outstanding films and some true (now) hidden gems.
