Grindhouse (2007)

Directors: Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino

Writers: Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino

Composers: Robert Rodriguez, Graeme Revell, Carl Thiel

Starring: TONS

More info: IMDb

Tagline: The sleaze-filled saga of an exploitation double feature.

Plot:  An homage to exploitation B-movie thrillers that combines two feature-length segments into one double-bill designed to replicate the grind house theater going experience of the 70s and 80s. In "Death Proof," a psycho named Stuntman Mike stalks and kills beautiful women with his car. In "Planet Terror," a small-town sheriffs' department has to deal with an outbreak of murderous, infected people called "sickos." A gun-legged woman named Cherry and her martial arts-wielding partner take on the zombie army. The two films will be fused together by fake movie trailers.

My rating: 10/10

Will I watch it again? Duh.

I was there opening night with friends and a theater filled with fans.  It was a wonderful experience.  We laughed our collective asses off and had an absolute blast.  I liked PLANET TERROR (2007) better than DEATH PROOF (2007) but part of that, I think, was having to sit still (and late at night) for so long.  DEATH got better on subsequent viewings and on its own.  I've had both films on their individual Blu-rays and I finally picked up the all-in-one release that has the fake trailers in-between the films.  Those are great, too.  I'd like to see all of them as features.  Maybe when their directors get hungry or want that additional Summer home they'll make 'em for us.
