My rating: 7/10

Will I watch it again?  No.

I've seen this trailer many times and I've always been tickled by the tagline on the poster that says, "Julie Christie carries the 'Demon Seed'."  This sci-fi/horror/thriller is surprisingly good.  The premise has an air of corny but it's not far off from being a futuristic version of ROSEMARY'S BABY (1968).  It's got suspense and horror with its sci-fi feet firmly placed in the 70s. Jerry Fielding's score has an edginess to it.  The story and pacing play out very nicely.  One thing I particularly dug was the computer's enforcer, a geometric construction that cleverly manipulates itself to whatever situation it needs to be in.  I think they called it a cube in the movie but it's a lot more than what it sounds.  One of its capabilities is killing!

That was the best and most effective scene in the movie.  The computer's progression from helpful genius to the total control it has be the end is natural and plausible.  The performances are good and it's nice that everyone treated this as a serious film despite its obvious genre trappings.
